Background

Human Dignity Foundation (HDF) is a private foundation, established since 2004. The foundation works to bring about positive change in the lives of poor people with a particular focus on enabling children and women to fulfil their rights. To date HDF has supported over 40 projects in Africa and Asia to a value of USD32m.

HDF currently has 3.5FTE staff comprised of:

Executive Director
Programme Officer
Finance Manager
Office Manager

Job Purpose: To manage the finances of the foundation and provide support to the HR & IT functions.

Responsibilities & Tasks

1.Finance

Be responsible for all finance matters and reporting
Manage and provide oversight for all aspects of organisational financial activity

1.1 Governance & Compliance

Review monthly/quarterly financial statements and report the financial status of the organization to the Executive Director and HDF’s Board
Ensure full tax compliance
Ensure proper internal control processes and procedures are in place and adhered to

1.2 Grants Finance

In close collaboration with the Programme Officer, review all grant finances from initial proposal review to final reporting stage

1.3 Operations

In collaboration with the Office Manager, prepare monthly management accounts for review with the Executive Director
Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts on a regular basis for review with the Executive Director
Manage outsourced payroll, tax returns and reports
Monitor and control all service contracts to ensure professional, cost effective and quality services that provide optimum value to HDF

2.Planning and Budgeting

Develop and implement a budget monitoring, control and review system
Prepare the HDF annual budget and present it to the HDF board for approval and on a needs basis

3.Internal & External Audit

Act as secretary to the HDF Audit Committee of the board
Develop, control and implement a programme of internal audit to ensure that HDF’s operations are carried out efficiently and with probity under the guidance of the HDF Audit Committee
Conduct visits to grantee offices to evaluate their financial and internal controls in line with HDF’s policies and procedures
Act as primary contact for the external auditors with responsibility for preparation of the annual audit file
Follow up on the implementation of agreed internal and external audit recommendations

4.Investment Administration

Act as secretary to the HDF Investment Committee
Implement actions arising from the committee
Manage day-to-day relationships with banks and investment advisers
Report to the HDF board on investment performance

5. Human Resource Support

Participate in recruitment and induction of staff as required
Support the training needs of the team
Ensure comprehensive and adequate HR insurance policies are in place
