Financial Controller – Offaly Centre for Independent Living – Tullamore, Co. Offaly

The Offaly Centre for Independent Living (OCIL) was founded in in 1995 and is a registered charity. OCIL receives the majority of it funding from the HSE and uses these funds to provide a personal assistant service to people with physical or sensory disabilities (Leaders) across Laois and Offaly. OCIL mission statement is to empower people with disabilities in the philosophy of independent living, which advocates equal opportunities and access to services and facilities within their communities.

We are currently recruiting for the position of Financial Controller based at our office in Tullamore. (1 year fixed term contract opportunities beyond this period may develop)

The Role:

This is a hands on role with the successful candidate taking overall responsibility for the effective financial management of OCIL and report to the Chief Operations Manager and the Board of Directors. He/she will have specific responsibility for the effective day to day operation of the Finance Department which includes budgets, management accounts, reports, creditors, debtors, and reconciliations etc. Ensure that all statutory and other returns are completed accurately and to time schedules.

Be fully aware of developments in accounting and governance procedures and protocols for the charity sector. Regularly reviewing internal control procedures and make recommendations on changes and developments, which will include formal internal audit checks.

 The candidate:

Be a qualified accountant
3 years’ experience post qualification
An in-depth knowledge of all policies and procedures in respect of governance and controls in the charity sector
Proactive style and Self-motivated  with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate across a range of stakeholders
Demonstrable track  record of leadership and strategic ability within the area of finance
Knowledge of and experience of working with the statement of recommended practice (SORP) for charities would be a distinct advantage
Previous experience of financial management in the voluntary sector, or health/public sector is desirable
