Community Heart Projects Coordinator – Irish Heart

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
The Community Heart Project Coordinator is responsible for the management and coordination of the Community Heart Project Programme 2016-2019 and integration of heart health initiatives for those communities. S/he will work with and support the designated Community Heart Projects in the context of the overall aims, objectives and action plans of Irish Heart’s Strategy.

Community Heart Projects
The Community Heart Projects programme is funded by Irish Heart. Over a three year period, it aims to positively influence healthy eating and physical activity in disadvantaged, high risk communities, with a strong focus on cardiovascular health. The three Community Heart Projects are locally based (Finglas, Monaghan and Wexford), locally led and devised to promote physical activity as well as access to and knowledge of easily available and affordable healthy food.

MAIN DUTIES:
To manage and coordinate the Community Heart Projects programme
To support capacity and good practice for the three Projects
To work with the Health Promotion team and other Irish Heart colleagues to support these communities provide greater heart health awareness, e.g. heart health checks and to develop environmental support, such as walking routes etc.
To support, encourage and develop the projects through regular site visits, networking and training events, social media and other communication channels
To encourage the projects to build in long term sustainability from the beginning e.g. encouraging regular meeting of local Advisory Groups
Monitoring the progress and development of the Community Heart Projects, making recommendations as appropriate to Irish Heart and the projects
To provide technical support, collective training and facilitate networking between the projects
To work with the Advocacy team to promote a greater awareness and understanding of food poverty and the heart health needs of disadvantaged groups across all aspects of public policy
Provide work updates and financial reports to the Health Promotion Manager and CEO as required
Liaise with the programme external evaluator on data collection and reports; evaluate and review programme delivery, bringing a solution focused approach to the Health Promotion Manager.
Co-ordinate administration of the programme, including management of the budget effectively and efficiently to ensure optimum support of the Community Heart Projects
Skills and Experience Required:

A relevant third level qualification in Community Development, or a related discipline
Minimum three years relevant experience preferably in the area of community development
Strong experience in development and management of community programmes is essential
Strong networking capabilities
Experience working with disadvantaged groups
Excellent group facilitation and presentation skills
Excellent report writing skills with exceptional attention to detail
Must be able to prioritise workload, plan and work to multiple deadlines in a demanding environment
Strong computer, database and IT/Social media and MS Office skills
Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team in a busy department
Ability to represent Irish Heart in a professional manner at all times
