Project Manager – Business in the Community Ireland – Dublin

4 Days per week – 1 year Contract

The mission of Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) has been to harness the power of Irish business to maximise its positive impact on all its stakeholders.

Business Action on Employment is BITC’s initiative for workplace diversity and inclusion. It is currently delivered via the two employment programmes Ready for Work and EPIC. Ready for Work supports people moving on from homelessness, addiction, mental ill-health, care and other backgrounds, and EPIC support immigrants, by maximising business input in the provision of training and guidance, work experience and access to jobs.

D1 Youth Employability, is a pilot project in Dublin 1, a key youth unemployment black spot. Research carried out by BITCI identified the employability of hard to reach young people in Dublin’s north inner city as a key issue where business can have significant impact. The research showed that many companies are already investing resources into improving education and employability opportunities in the local community, and there is scope, through a collaborative approach with other key local stakeholders, to create systemic change by re-organising these interventions for greater impact.

A partnership model is being developed with East Wall Youth, SWAN Youth Project, Members of BITCI’s business network and Trinity College Dublin to pilot an employability project to support a group of young hard to reach individuals with multiple barriers to employment. The project’s aim is to engage 45 young people in training and work experience within one year.

Objectives of the project

Reduce barriers to training and employment, supporting improved readiness for employment; Give young people an opportunity to better understand the world of work, etiquette, the culture, the language, the routine, the work attire and the skills to participate; Test a model of collaboration with key local stakeholders that is strategic in approach and is replicable, sustainable and scalable; Design, evaluate and measure success in line with best practice and use academic research and resources to present to government and business
