Project Officer – Disability Federation of Ireland

OVERALL PURPOSE:
Acting as a catalyst within the region to support and progress the development of a partnership approach between voluntary disability organisations and the HSE. Post holders will require good organisational, administrative, communication, and negotiation and facilitation skills.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The post holder will develop and maintain positive relationships particularly with colleagues, voluntary disability organisations, HSE, and a range of statutory agencies. She/he will work in a respectful, co-ordinated and integrated way with statutory and voluntary agencies.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
To specifically support the development of voluntary disability organisations having regard to national and international policy including the UN CRPD, NDS, EPSEN, New Directions, Transforming Lives, Assisted Decision Making, Local Government Reform etc.
Assist voluntary organisations to make and develop linkages and networks with community and statutory stakeholders.
Liaise closely with voluntary organisations for the purpose of providing quality information, advice and other necessary supports.
To generally assist in developing the capacity of voluntary disability organisations.
To support DFI’s representation to HSE and elsewhere by direct participation and through supporting other representatives.
To undertake any support work as may be assigned from time to time.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
Direct working knowledge and experience [5 years minimum] in the area of disability policy and practice.
Detailed disability and community / voluntary sectoral knowledge.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to travel regionally.
Availability to work flexible hours.
Ability to work as part of a team.
