Young Carer Support Worker – Family Carers Ireland

Family Carers Ireland is a registered charity (number CHY 10962) and a company limited by guarantee, emerging from the coming together of two long standing charities of over 25 years – The Carers Association and Caring for Carers in 2016. The merger brings the best of both charities together whilst broadening the range of services and supports to family carers and giving one national voice to represent fairness for carers.

Applications are now invited for the following position: Young Carer Support Worker (JobBridge Internship)

Base: Tullamore, Co Offaly
Contract: JobBridge (6 or 9 month placement) 35 hours per week

This is an Internship. An allowance of €50 per week will be paid in addition to your current Social Welfare payment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Deliver presentations and talks to key audiences on issues affecting Young Carers
Identify the needs and supports required by Young Carers utilising FCI’s assessment toolkits
Establish and develop dedicated supports for Young Carer groups throughout the Midlands (e.g. support groups, training, activity breaks etc.)
Liaise with local partnerships and explore development opportunities in relation to increased resources and additional service provision in line with FCI policies
Deliver a Young Carers awareness and information programme for education providers in the Midlands
Provide information, support and advice to networks of childcare providers in the Midlands
Provide monthly reports/plans for your area of responsibility
Attend team meetings as required
Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications:
A qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Care or related discipline is desirable
Fluent English spoken and written
Experience working with young people

Candidate must possess:
A general understanding of the principles of Youth Work
Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
Excellent computer skills and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes
Excellent organisational, communication and people skills
The ability to deliver programmes and activities as well as design events
The ability to meet deadlines
Willingness to work unsociable hours on occasion
A willingness to be flexible and to work as a team player
The ability to work with volunteers, professionals, children, parents and the general public
Sound judgment in responding to sensitive situations
A full clean driving license and access to a car
Successful candidate will be subject to Garda Vetting procedures

The successful candidate will gain an insight into how a national charity works and will receive valuable experience in working with young carers. They will also gain skills in planning, logic modelling, monitoring and evaluating programmes.
