Fundraising / Communications Manager – The Mater Foundation – Dublin

OVERVIEW:

The Mater Foundation was established in 1985 as the official fundraising body of The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and is now the largest adult hospital foundation in Ireland.

It exists to inspire and enable financial support from the community for exceptional patient care at The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

Funds raised through the Mater Foundation are used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, enhance facilities and develop special programmes to help the hospital remain at the forefront of first class medical care while at the same time investing in medical research to help determine the future of medicine tomorrow.

THE ROLE:

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Fundraising & Communications Manager will lead, develop, manage, support and implement all fundraising activities to ensure the strategic growth of the Mater Foundation’s long-term sustainable fundraising. As Fundraising & Communications Manager you will diversify the organisation’s fundraising income from various target audiences, build on a sustainable base of loyal donors, as well as develop public engagement through communications. This will involve managing and working with the fundraising team. The ideal candidate will be driven and energetic, with a proven track record in corporate or high-level donor engagement, possess a clear understanding of fundraising and the charity sector and also have experience in managing and motivating a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To lead, develop, manage, support, implement, monitor and evaluate a long term strategic fundraising strategy and budget that will raise the profile, grow and develop the income base and ensure the future growth of the charity (including individual giving/community events/corporate and In Memory giving.)
To develop a major donor strategy and to plan, budget and lead a range of conversion and acquisition strategies to build and support a donor base of major donors, including high net worth individuals and corporate sponsors.
To work with the fundraising team to develop and implement a regular giving strategy with a focus on developing campaigns aimed at both warm and cold donor prospects.
To achieve budgeted income and expenditure targets across all activities and work with the Finance Officer to develop the annual fundraising budget and ensure targets are met and campaigns are within budget.
To line manage relevant staff and develop a dynamic and successful fundraising and communications team.
Ensure best practice for cultivation and stewardship of donors and potential donors is implemented across the team and in all activity, in line with best practice and other legal requirements.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, attend relevant internal and external meetings, produce financial and strategic reports and maintain and contribute to policy and decision making and all aspects of organisational development.
To be an ambassador for the Foundation, to act as a point of contact for donors, potential donors and key stakeholders and to give presentations and educate the public and various stakeholders on the impact of the charity.
To oversee and coordinate all communications for the Mater Foundation with the help of other staff members including: social media, PR and marketing materials and websites
To monitor fundraising developments in the sector and continually review and improve fundraising capacity.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Essential:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior leadership role within a  fundraising team covering individual, events, corporate and/or major donor fundraising, with demonstrated experience of delivering on financial targets.
Demonstrated knowledge of the donor landscape in Ireland and demonstrated experience of developing networks to generate fundraising income.
Experience of managing staff and developing and motivating a successful fundraising or sales team.
Experience of managing and planning financial targets and budgets.
Passionate about the work of the Mater Foundation and a knowledge of the medical services and research it helps fund.
Excellent written skills, with experience of writing for websites.
Working knowledge of Raisers Edge or similar database and CRM system experience essential.
Educated to degree level or relevant experience gained in either the voluntary or business sector.
Flexible and solution focused, with ability to work collaboratively to deliver on fundraising targets and to contribute to the organisation’s strategic plans.
Excellent project management, time management and planning skills.

Desirable:

Full and clean driver’s license and use of own car.
Previous experience of fundraising for a hospital or foundation.
Membership of a relevant professional body.
