Information & Advocacy Officer – Crosscare

Responsibilities:
Clients
Providing information to people emigrating from Ireland and to emigrants who are returning to Ireland
Responding to queries and making appropriate referrals
Advocating in relation to clients’ needs with third parties, particularly with regard to social welfare applications & appeals and housing/homeless services
Ensuring all clients are treated with dignity, respect and in a professional manner
Information provision
Networking and outreach as relevant with other organisations to raise awareness of client group and issues
Providing training sessions on emigration and returning emigration issues as relevant to other service providers
Developing and updating content for social media profiles as well as www.migrantproject.ie
Administration/Policy
Maintain up-to-date client records
Monitor and track client trends and issues to contribute to social policy development
Keep up to date with emigration and returning issues
Be conversant with relevant legislation and policies in relation to housing, homelessness & social welfare
Collaborating with other Crosscare projects
Organisational
Working as part of the CIAS team (which includes the Migrant Project, Housing & Welfare Information and the Refugee Service): engaging in team meetings, supervision, reviews and planning sessions
Maintaining Crosscare confidentiality at all times and follow data protection legislation requirements and policies and procedures
Representing Crosscare at different fora
Promote positive working relationships with external organisations
Any other duties relevant to the post as may be determined by the Project Leader
The Holder:
(Qualification/Skills Requirements)

Skills / experience – required
Fluent English and high level of literacy skills
Experience of working on a one-to-one basis, providing information and advocating on behalf of clients
Working practical knowledge of homeless prevention and housing
Working practical knowledge of social welfare & related systems (applications, appeals, Habitual Residence Condition, etc.)
Case management (ability to manage a varied caseload, and to prioritise and effectively manage urgent cases as they present)
Commitment to social justice
Degree / post-graduate qualification in social sciences or equivalent
Desirable
Familiarity with emigration and returning to Ireland issues
Advanced knowledge of social protection and housing/homeless systems (e.g. social welfare appeals 7 habitual residency)
Writing/editing skills & Social media and website skills
Personal Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Motivation and ability to work on own initiative
Organisational skills
IT Skills (MS Office essential; experience in website and database management desirable
