Policy & Research Officer – Psychological Society of Ireland – Dublin 8

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen interest in policy as it pertains to the subject of psychology and related topics. Working as part of a small but effective team, you will report directly to the CEO and will work closely with the Head of Communications and the Membership and Professional Services Manager. The Policy and Research Officer will be responsible for researching current policies while progressing and drafting policies related to the PSI’s membership, vision, and mission. They will also be responsible for developing PSI policy positions regarding and reactions to same.

Duties and Responsibilities
Research, analyse, and monitor the progress of policies that relate to the work, remit, and strategic priorities of the PSI.
Document, report, and present findings to PSI management, Council, and membership as required.
Support the development of PSI policy strategies and related work plans.
Conduct background research o draft policy papers, briefing notes, and submissions.
Apply policy knowledge to inform PSI communications and to support the work of the PSI Council and committees.
Coordinate PSI lobbying returns in a timely manner.
Support and input into the development of a policy section on the PSI website.
Sit on committees/working groups where needed, providing support to the function of PSI divisions and special interest groups (SIGs).
Liaise where relevant, with policy professionals in the public service, other NGOs, policy advocates, and sectoral stakeholders.
Attend information events related to policy as required.
Provide a research function across the team and conduct detailed research on subjects relating to the PSI as directed by senior management.
Answer membership queries regarding policy or related activities.
Provide support to colleagues where necessary, assisting with other ad-hoc administrative and project requirements.
Other responsibilities as specified by the CEO, Head of Communications, or other senior staff.

Essential skills and experience
Commitment to the values and objectives of the PSI.
A third-level degree or equivalent professional qualification in a field relevant to policy research (e.g., social science, public policy, public administration, economics).
1-2 years of experience working in a research or policy role
Demonstrable organisational, planning, and prioritisation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Able to take instruction and direction and to deliver projects of high quality in a timely manner.
Proven analytical skills and an ability to absorb and process large amounts of complex information, and distil same for communication to stakeholders.
Experienced in using a variety of computer software packages.
A high level of integrity, discretion, and trust with confidential information.
Consistently review own performance and set self-challenging goals and targets.
