Programme Assistant – Irish Wheelchair Association – Athy, Co Kildare

Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is a progressive independent person centred organisation providing services for people with limited mobility nationally. Our mission is to provide exceptional services and other supports that change lives and ensure that people with disabilities are in a position to participate fully and equally in their communities. The Association employs 2,500 staff in every county in Ireland to provide those services.

We now seek applications for the following position in Athy, Co Kildare:

Programme Assistant – 20 hours per week

Overall purpose of Job:

As a Programme Assistant you will be expected to develop and implement programmes, projects and individualised supports to members engaging in the Resource and Outreach Centre (ROC). The objectives of the ROC are to provide pathways for people with disability to participate fully in the community, by means of establishing developmental, personal and social inclusion programmes. You will be required to undertake and ensure the execution of such other tasks/duties as may be deemed necessary to the successful implementation of the programme.

This role will involve close liaison with a number of individuals including the ROC Service Co-ordinator, colleagues, volunteers and members of Resource & Outreach Centres.

Qualifications and Skills

A FETAC level 5 (Major Award) Care Support or similar qualification is essential. FETAC Major Awards that are deemed relevant to IWA are:

Community & Health Services (to include minor components Safety & Health at Work and Care Provision & Practice)
Health Service Skills (to include minor components in Workplace Statutory Policies & Procedures and Care Skills and Care Support
Health Care Support (to include minor components Safety & Health at Work and Care Skills and Care Support)
Previous experience of developing and delivering projects or programmes is essential.
Previous experience of working with people with disabilities.
The ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
Full driving licence
