Small-Animal Clinic Receptionist – The Irish Blue Cross – Dublin

Location: The Irish Blue Cross, Small-Animal Clinic, 15A Goldenbridge Industrial Est., Inchicore, D.8.
Reporting to: Head of Veterinary Services

Salary: €18,000 – €20,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours of Work: Based on alternate weeks of 33-hours (3 x 12 hour shifts including daily one-hour lunch break and breaks) followed by a 27-hour week (2 x 2 hour shifts including daily one-hour lunch break and breaks & Saturday morning with break). Start time is 7.30AM and finish time is 7.30PM. There is a second receptionist working in conjunction with this role.

The Organisation

The Irish Blue Cross, one of Ireland’s longest established animal welfare charities provides a mobile veterinary service throughout Dublin and a fixed veterinary clinic at Inchicore for pet owners whose financial circumstances does not allow them to afford private veterinary fees.  The Irish Blue Cross also operates an equine ambulance service, which attends race meetings and events.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a busy and varied workload in a fast paced animal welfare and veterinary environment and will be responsible to the Head of Veterinary Services and Manager, working as part of a supportive team with a genuine commitment to animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities include:

Front-of-house customer service
Presentation and maintenance of reception/waiting area & adjacent areas
Handling daily post; a very busy phone line and email system
Client liaison at desk, handling payments, receipts and generating reports
Personnel liaison, with excellent hand-over to next-day receptionist
Use of the Teleos database, Microsoft Word, Excel, Email, etc
Overseeing deliveries and reception supplies
General back-up to the veterinary and administration teams

Qualifications / Essential Experience and Other:

A minimum of two-three year’s relevant work experience
Excellent communication, organisational and database/computer skills
Responsible, resourceful & attentive to detail with a ‘can do’ approach
Enjoy working as part of a small team, playing a part in the delivery of a high quality service
Competency in calming challenging customer relations

Desirable:

Veterinary nurse qualification/experience is not a requirement, but would be an advantage.
