Founded in 1954, European Movement (EM) Ireland is the longest established Irish NGO working on European affairs.  An independent, not-for-profit, membership organisation, EM Ireland works to develop the connection between Ireland and Europe.  We facilitate links between all sectors of Irish society and the EU, through advocacy campaigns, education programmes, training courses, information briefings and networking events.

Job purpose

Reporting to the Head of Communications and Development, the post holder will assist with the implementation of an ambitious new Communications and Development strategy in addition to working on a variety of projects and programmes critical to the success of the organisation’s work programme and strategic plan.

This is a busy, hands-on role and we are looking for someone with drive, passion, ambition and commitment to join our team in growing the organisation.

Main roles and responsibilities

Assist the Head of Communications & Development with delivery of communications and marketing plans for EM Ireland activities, events and programmes
Create strong digital content for online communication channels
Manage EM Ireland’s website and social media platforms
Editor of EM Ireland publications and materials, collateral, branding and reports, policy documents, members’ communications
Play a leading role in managing the various EM Ireland events as appropriate
Work with company partners and suppliers in areas such as PR, AV, photography, graphic design etc
Maximise communications and development opportunities for the organisation
Support and manage interns as assigned
Keep up to-date with current issues and public opinions
Work on different projects and programmes allied to the work plan of the organisation
Develop and maintain key relationships with stakeholders, funders, partners and members
Working closely with the Executive Director, supporting the business and operational development goals of the organisation
Act as a representative of European Movement Ireland as appropriate and act in accordance with the objectives and ethos of the organisation
Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time commensurate with the nature of this post.

Experience and knowledge

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a communications/ public affairs/ marketing role
Advanced level of skill in Mailchimp, WordPress and MS Office
Proven ability to assist with the implementation of a communications strategy
Strong social media and digital skills
Track record in event management
Research and development skills with experience of generating content for publication, dissemination and distribution (e.g. publication of reports, strategy documents, position papers, articles, newsletters etc.)
Knowledge and understanding of the external policy and political environment as it relates to Ireland’s relationship in a broad European context
Experience of working on funded projects and collaborating on international tenders would be advantageous
Education to honours degree level in a third level institution in a relevant discipline
Experience working as part of a collaborative team and flexibility allied to the nature of the work of the organisation in terms of occasional unsocial hours

Skills and special aptitudes

Highly motivated; ability to multitask and manage a complex workload in a fast-paced and changing environment within a small dynamic team
Excellent oral, written, and verbal presentation skills with the ability to communicate and interact with a varied national and international stakeholder base through various means
Strong critical evaluation skills with well-developed attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal  and networking skills
Though not essential, knowledge of other European languages would be useful
Full driving license and use of car would be helpful

Location: Based in Dublin at European Movement Ireland Offices

Relationships: Reporting to the Head of Communications and Development, this person will play a key role in implementing the organisation’s new Communications & Development strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with other team members and s/he will supervise the work of a number of interns.

Terms: This is a 2-year appointment with a 6 month probationary period.  The salary scale for this position starts at €23,000 and is commensurate with experience.
