Education Development Officer – Ballyfermot / Chapelizod Partnership – Dublin

The Board of the Ballyfermot/Chapelizod Partnership invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following post: Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP), Education Development Officer (35 hours per week).

The Purpose of the Job: The role of the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme Education Development Officer is to deliver the Ballyfermot/Chapelizod Partnership SICAP education programme(s)

Main duties and responsibilities:

To deliver the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme) including the delivery of key support services to the local community to improve education outcomes for targets groups in the area. Including the expansion of lifelong learning and community based education programmes for young people and families with experience of educational disadvantage. The Education Development officer working with the Education Co-ordinator will have responsibility for the delivery of the following programme areas.
Key task areas:
1. Programme Delivery: (Including)

To provide information and understanding of opportunities and support available for people with experience of educational disadvantage though the development of the following initiatives:

Pathways to education supports
Outreach advice and guidance
Education Fair
Initiatives promoting positive mental health
Education guidance

Developing and promoting lifelong learning and community education programmes for young people and families with experience of educational disadvantage the development of the following initiatives:

Literacy and numeracy programmes
Access and Participation initiatives
Ballyfermot Challenger initiative
Early Years initiatives

To support and advance programmes aimed at participation among young people at risk of early school leaving and/or not in education, employment or training, including:

Expanding interagency collaborations
Working with School Completion Committees
    Supporting the Enterprise Coordinator with the schools enterprise programme

To develop a learning community network progressing a community wide approach to addressing educational inequality

Supporting the D10 Education Task Force
Developing the D10 Student Forum and Student Volunteer Scheme
Post Primary Guidance Pack
Advancing restorative practice approaches in educational settings

2. Reporting

Keeping project files including on line reporting tools up to date to effectively manage a computerised client caseload system (IRIS) to ensure that the appropriate tracking mechanisms are in place.
Developing and implementing evaluation systems to assess the impact of the programme
The principal duties and responsibilities as outlined above indicate the main functions and responsibilities of the post and are subject to review and amendment in light of changing circumstances and may include other duties and responsibilities as may be determined from time to time by the designated line manager.

3. Key Skills/Competencies:

The Officer will have a number of years experience in the education/access  arena  or in a related field (three years minimum)
Excellent standard of education including a relevant third level qualification (e.g. career guidance, adult education)
Clear understanding of Community Development Principles
Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship building, organisational, report writing, ICT, and time management skills
Capacity to effectively interact and take a leadership role with a broad range of stakeholders
Capacity to work well within a team, ability to adopt a flexible and responsive approach to working in a community context

4. Term of the Appointment

This is a fixed term contract from April 2015 to the 31st of December 2015
The salary will be €26,252 depending on qualifications and experience (may be amended subject to funding)
Hours 35 per week, over five days Monday-Friday with some level of work flexibility expected

5. Reporting Structure:

The Education Development Officer will work within the Education Development staff team and will report on a day-to-day basis to the Ballyfermot/Chapelizod Partnership Education Co-ordinator.
