Employment Mediator – South West Inner City Local Employment Centre

Mission: The Principle Goal of South West Inner City Local Employment Centre is to progress Clients into Employment, Education and Training.

Purpose of the Job: It will be the function of the Employment Mediator to work with unemployed clients to identify and co-ordinate progression paths, which lead to the client successfully securing training and employment. The Employment Mediator will have a key role to play in working alongside all members of the SWICLEC Team and their respective clients, to ensure that an effective and professional service is delivered.

Department of Social Protection: The Employment Mediator will work under the operational terms set out by the Department of Social Protection in the management of client supports including the use of electronic and other case management systems.

Job Description:
To develop and plan individual career path progression routes for long-term unemployed clients which having assessed the client’s current employability status indicate concrete actions which need to be taken to secure employment. Taking cognisance of the clients starting point from an adult guidance prospective.
To co-ordinate and manage the realisation of the progression route ensuring that the LES and the relevant agencies provide the necessary progression steps.
To provide clients with the appropriate support, advice and guidance relating to employment, training and career options.
To effectively manage a computerised client caseload system to ensure that the appropriate tracking mechanisms are in place.
To play an advocacy role with respect to working with job vacancies, work experience and internship opportunities and training/education opportunities on behalf of clients.
To work towards reaching set objectives.
To work with employers in relation to their needs around filling vacancies.
To provide an aftercare service to both unemployed and employer clients.
Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Personal Specification

Knowledge Essential:
Relevant third level qualification in adult guidance or related discipline
Knowledge and understanding of the factors impacting on unemployed individuals seeking work
Demonstrate and understanding and commitment to social inclusion and adult guidance practices
Experience Essential:

Minimum three years’ experience working in a relevant professional field
Experience of working directly with adults in an adult guidance setting or related area
Experience of establishing contact and developing relationships with key stakeholders including State Bodies, Employers and other stakeholders
Skills Essential:

Ability to work sensitively and in an empowering way in an adult guidance setting
Demonstrate a commitment to assuring high standards of professional practice
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Strong ICT skills

The Post:
This is an initial fixed term contract until the 31st of December 2017 and is subject to continuous funding from the Department of Social Protection.
Salary will be in line within defined salary scales and available budget.
