About the MRCG

The Medical Research Charities Group (MRCG) www.mrcg.ie is a group of 34 medical research and patient support charities, whose purpose is to support members in their efforts to instigate and participate in research projects both in Ireland and internationally.

The MRCG believes that patients and patient organisations should lead and stimulate critical medical research and that active patient involvement should be a part of the process by which research is identified, prioritised, designed, conducted and disseminated.

Job Title: Project Officer

Job Description: Provide administrative support for the management of events and advocacy campaigns. Reports to the Public Affairs and Communications Manager.

Qualifications and Experience: Qualification in Communications/ Public relations/Event Management or related area. Previous experience in Office Administration.

This contract will be until the end of June 2016. This is a part-time role and will consist of 21 hours per week. Salary range for this role will be commensurate with experience and skills. The position will be based in the MRCG office at Camden Row, Dublin 8.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Administrative Support for key activities of the Medical Research Charities Group:

Administration of the Irish Health Research Forum (www.ihrf.ie)
MRCG Advocacy and Communications Work
MRCG Event Management
Design and update quarterly newsletters for the MRCG
Design other promotional materials for MRCG as required

Job Description

Work with the MRCG Public Affairs and Communications Manager to support the Irish Health Research Forum. This includes:

Setting up meetings for Irish Health Research Steering Group and Forum – inviting attendees, managing venue, refreshments etc.
Working with graphic designers and printers to create collateral for events.
Update website for Forum.
Manage social media for Forum.
Editing and proofing documents.
Support the management of other MRCG events, seminars, workshops, conferences etc.,

–  Organise the venue, refreshments, invitees, speakers, printed material, manage expenses, secure funding.

General Administrative Support for MRCG Advocacy and Communications.
Update the content of the MRCG(www.mrcg.ie) and Irish Health Research Forum(www.ihrf.ie) websites.
Social Media Management and promotion of MRCG and IHRF online.
Assist in securing of funding/ grant applications.
Represent the MRCG at events-conferences/meetings etc.

Person specification

Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
Strong administration and organisational skills with good attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and demands.
Computer literate including use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to prioritise, plan and organise own workload.
Strong empathy with and commitment to the charity’s goals.
Self starter with initiative and drive and an ability to work independently, think creatively and identify opportunities.
Diplomatic and tactful with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of people.
A team player with an open and flexible attitude.
Previous experience of the health/research/charity sector or a knowledge and understanding of the health/charity sector. Previous experience of social media management for an organisation or charity.
Ideally have experience in website development/graphic design.
