Community Researchers – Blanchardstown Local Drug and Alcohol Task Force – Dublin 15

The BLDATF is responsible for implementing the National Substance Misuse Strategy, and facilitating a more coordinated response in tackling drug and alcohol use and misuse in Dublin 15. The BLDATF has developed a Drug and Alcohol Trends Monitoring System (DATMS) to collect information about drugs used and misused within Dublin 15 on an annual basis. This system has the ability to identify new emerging trends at an early stage in their development. This information will identify key issues, gaps in service provision, and inform the development of appropriate evidence based strategies to respond to the identified issues.

The research will be managed by the Research and Training Officer and conducted in collaboration with Community Researchers. Community Researchers will be responsible for completing ‘community scoping work’. This will involve an exploration of drug and alcohol use within the community setting. It will include observation of local communities, targeting and recruiting people to take part in the research (people who congregate in public places and use drugs and alcohol). The research will focus on the following six communities: Mulhuddart, Corduff, Mountview, Blakestown, Huntstown and Hartstown.

Knowledge and experience:

Knowledge of drug and alcohol use and misuse.
Knowledge of the issues associated with drug and alcohol use, in relation to the individual user, their family and the community.
Knowledge of at least two of the aforementioned communities.
Ability to complete or prior experience of completing community scoping work with drug and alcohol users/misusers, including the ability to interview these people about their drug and alcohol use.
Experience of completing qualitative research.

This is a contract role and will operate from June to July 2015. Training will be provided. This is a paid role.
