Commercial Development Executive – Union of Students in Ireland – Dublin

POSITION: Commercial DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE

OFFICE BASE: Dublin

REPORT TO: General Manager

OVERALL PURPOSE & LEVEL:

This position directly supports the work of the President and Officer Board of the organisation in the development and implementation of a commercial strategy.

Tasks and targets are ultimately set by and reported to the President. The post holder will be required to use their judgement, initiative and experience, to develop and implement, with key personnel in the organisation, a new commercial development strategy for The Union of Students in Ireland, the aim of which is to provide diverse income streams for the organisation.

The post holder will require a high level of motivation, a positive disposition and flexible attitude and must be an enthusiastic self-starter.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The post holder will develop and maintain positive professional relationships with colleagues, a range of statutory agencies, commercial and other non-profit organisations and community and voluntary organisations in pursuit of the interests of The Union of Students in Ireland and its commercial development.  She/he will work in the Union in such a way as to encourage the best from, and support the efforts of, others.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

The primary focus of the work will be on the implementation of the commercial development strategy for the Union so that the income streams for the organisation can be diversified. The activities include, but are not limited to the following:

Conduct research to identify potential funders and prospective collaborative partners from the range of statutory bodies, philanthropic foundations, corporations and other which may be suitable for the Union to approach.
Write relevant and compelling proposals and other material as required for the development of the relationships with the identified prospects within the different target groups.
Support the team in developing relationships with these prospects. This includes setting up meetings, undertaking preparation and follow up actions, tracking progress and also attending such meetings as required.
Preparation of materials for meetings, taking notes, and managing correspondence and relations.
Implement the sales strategy for the current portfolio of products offered by the Union, amending and adjusting the strategy per quarter as needed. This includes exploration of additional opportunities for other sources of ‘earned income’ for the Union.
Support plans to increase the Union’s membership base
Piloting new sales/recruitment techniques
Working with the General Manager and the Officer Board team, ensure that USI.ie is used to its full potential in terms of commercial development for the Union. This includes advertising opportunities, promotions, etc.
Write narrative and financial reports for donors, management and committees as appropriate.
Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time.
Actively protect the Union’s integrity through honesty, sincerity and service to its members whilst promoting nationally the benefits of association with the Union.
Tasks related to the general operation of the organisation as directed from time to time by the General Manager

Essential specification:

Qualification to degree standard in a business or related discipline

2 years’ experience in a similar or related role

Excellent written and spoken English

Excellent presentation skills

Desirable specification:

Capacity in, or willingness to learn, the Irish Language
